Even in Soviet times, people knew about the existence of the dinner in Gum, but always believed that it was designed exclusively for a large team of store employees.
Today, GUM dinner is popular among foreigners as it is like a gastronomic journey to the Soviet Union. There is nothing better than a delicious and healthy meal from one of the most famous books of the childhood.
Here they cook with love and skill. You can always find a comfy place in a huge spacious dining hall. But there is one disadvantage – long line. Try to perceive it like a part of the Soviet interior especially that it moves quickly. There is also a snack bar serving classic Soviet sandwiches with sausage and the famous rum ball cakes.
Futhermore, to our great surprise, the dinner is rather cheap, despite being centrally located. On average, for a meal consisting of a plate of rice with meat with some salad and juice, we paid no more than $8 (per person).
This dinner is located in the very center of Moscow, next to Red Square, in GUM (entrance from Ilinka Street). People go to eat out there all the time, especially when the stores are crowded. It is open daily from 10:00 to 22:00.
