Moscow Metro

It is beautiful, cheap, reliable and runs on time

Moscow Metro

In Moscow, the Metro is often the fastest way to get around the city compared to other means of public transportation, taxis or driving. During rush hours, metro trains run almost every two minutes.

The Moscow Metro carries about 7 million passengers a day. That is why the trains and metro stations are very crowded especially on weekdays early in the morning and in the evening (around 5 or 6 pm).

Each metro line in Moscow has a number (1 to 12) and a different color. There are several multicoloured metro maps in every car, and a loud speaker announces the name of the station (in English too) at every stop. However, Metro signs that give directions inside the metro are only in Russian, though. There is a ring-line (brown) which has crossings with all other radial lines. Metro entrances are marked with a large red letter "M".
