DOMODEDOVO (Домодедово) - DME

Domodedovo International Airport

Moscow Domodedovo Airport is the second busiest airport of Russia in terms of passenger traffic. The airport is named after the town of Domodedovo, on the territory of which it is located.

Domodedovo airport is located in 45km from the city centre. It only has one terminal which serves both international and domestic flights. The departure area for domestic flights is located on the first floor, international flights are on the second floor.

While Sheremetyevo airport, the second busiest in Russia, handles most of Aeroflot’s flights (and most flights to North America as well), Domodedovo airport primarily handles domestic flights and those from Europe and Asia.

Currently (as of January 2019) 82 airlines from around the world operate regular flights to Domodedovo. Largest Russian and foreign air carriers are the airport partners. Domodedovo Airport has two independent runways. The third runway construction is planned.

Domodedovo airport passenger terminal is located between the two runways. The terminal has an area about 135 thousand square meters. On the ground floor, there is a check-points, shops, coffee shop, waiting room, hall of departure and arrival, access to the Aeroexpress train station.

As would be expected, the airport expansions have made transfers more simple and seamless (just follow the transit signs), and they’ve added much needed services such as dining and shopping. The new terminal features a large shopping hall on the second floor of the building, where you can shop for everything from clothes, shoes, and accessories, to perfume, cosmetics, and magazines. Duty-free shopping is also available in the international airlines zone. There are also restaurants featuring Italian, Indian, and Uzbek cuisines. And for added convenience the terminal contains a pharmacy, post office, and of course currency exchange stores. There is even a mosque and orthodox chapel.

How to get to/from airport
The Aeroexpress train from Domodedovo Airport leaves every 30 minutes and takes around 45 minutes. It arrives at Paveletsky railway station (Павелецкий вокзал) which is located next to Paveletskaya metro station (Павелецкая) in the centre of Moscow, just two stations from Red Square. You can buy tickets at the airport and railway station as well as online on the website: www.aeroexpress.ru/en/. The Aeroexpress railway terminal is located next to the domestic flights arrival area, on the righthand side of the airport if you face the airport building.

Buses to Moscow leave from the square in front of Domodedovo Airport, but sometimes it is not easy to find them - it’s about 100 metres from the airport. Depending on the traffic it takes about 30 minutes to get to Moscow’s Domodedovskaya metro station (Домодедовская) on the green line which is rather far from the centre. Buses leave around every 15 minutes, as soon as they are filled up.
